Deploy

Five steps to your own mail server.

You need an Ubuntu 24.04 server with its own public address, a domain you control, and an SSH key. The installer does the rest and always tells you what it is about to change.

  1. Connect

Give the installer the server's address and your SSH key. It checks the server's host key before it runs anything, and never accepts passwords.

  2. Check

A preflight lists what is fine and what needs attention: memory, disk, free mail ports, clock, other mail servers. It changes nothing.

  3. Install

The mail engine, the web front and the database are installed and started as separate services, with only the ports mail needs open to the internet.

  4. Add your DNS records

The installer shows the exact records for your domain and waits. When you have added them, run it again: it continues where it stopped.

  5. Sign in

Reveal the owner's first password once, sign in to the owner portal, turn on two-step verification, and invite your colleagues.

What you need

  • Ubuntu 24.04 server, 4 GB RAM or more
  • A domain whose DNS you can edit
  • Reverse DNS (PTR) set by your hosting provider
  • Outgoing port 25 allowed, or a gateway

What it keeps safe

  • Backups before every upgrade
  • Automatic switch-back if an upgrade fails
  • Rollback that leaves your mail data in place
  • Secrets in private files, never in logs
